Museum of Islamic Civilisations
Sharjah / UAE (2019-2022)
The Museum of Islamic Civilisations stands as one of the world's most distinguished institutions dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of the Islamic world. Spanning centuries of art, science, and culture, the museum's collection tells a profound story of human achievement and civilisation. Our lighting design was crafted to honour this legacy, ensuring every artefact is experienced with the depth and reverence it deserves.
Lighting within a museum of this scale demands a meticulous balance between conservation and visual impact. We worked closely with curators and conservation specialists to develop solutions that protect delicate manuscripts, textiles, and ceramics while drawing visitors into an immersive narrative journey. Adjustable colour temperatures and precisely calculated beam angles were employed to accentuate the intricate details of each exhibit without causing photochemical degradation.
From the grand entrance hall to the intimate display alcoves, every zone was treated as a unique lighting environment. Custom-engineered track systems and recessed fixtures allowed seamless transitions between exhibition themes, guiding visitors through time and geography with intuitive visual cues. The result is a space where light becomes a storyteller — silently amplifying the voice of an extraordinary civilisation.
